August 2 - November 24, 2001 at the Westchester Broadway Theatre - (Elmsford, NY):

Tom's 4 month run playing the dual roles of Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde resulted in a total of 91 performances!

The musical is an evocative tale of romance and the epic battle between good and evil. Jekyll & Hyde brings new life to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story. A whirlwind odyssey pitting man against himself is set into motion when the brilliant Dr. Jekyll's medical experiment backfires, giving life to Edward Hyde, his evil alter ego. Click here to read an electronic version of the book. This is a production of the Frank Wildhorn version, which ran for over three "killer" years on Broadway.

Tom had received a fair amount of e-mail concerning his portrayal of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. If you would like to send Tom an e-mail you may click this link. Go to the FAQ's Page for Tom's replies to frequently asked questions about the show.

"This is the 'Jekyll & Hyde' to see. If Robert Cuccioli, the original Jekyll/Hyde, had been replaced by Tom Schmid ... "Jekyll & Hyde" might still be on Broadway in New York"

"Tom Schmid, the actor from Brainerd, Minnesota will enthrall you as Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde as he brilliantly depicts the story of the man who dared to cross the line between good and evil. Schmid's transformation from the good guy, Dr. Jekyll, to the bad guy, Edward Hyde, is chilling."

"Tom Schmid is amazing as Jekyll and Hyde. The Minnesota native is able to make the transformation from the proper scientist to the hunched over snarling beast with just changes in his body language and voice right before the audience. The moment Hyde appears you feel his presence. There is no mistaking Schmid's true ability as an actor... Tony-worthy performances."

"Schmid's performance as Jekyll & Hyde is charged with emotion and resounding vocal aptness. The actor, who is a native of Brainerd, Minnesota, captures the essence of good and uncontrollable evil. Schmid's energy and moving emergence into his character is a wonder to witness. A vast array of feeling is portrayed by this gifted performer who masters the sensitive with the sinful, the wicked with the wholesome. Schmid's astounding vocal and acting talent culminates and is wonderfully showcased in Jekyll & Hyde's 'Final Transformation.'"

"In the demanding role of Jekyll/Hyde, Schmid pulls out all the stops. He cleverly uses his steady tenor for Jekyll and allots Hyde a deeper baritone range, though in both cases he displays an impressive voice with enough sinew to sail easily over the music. Hearts surely flutter when he effortlessly tosses off the show’s big number: 'This Is The Moment.'" -- Click here to read the review!

"Jekyll & Hyde requires a gifted singing actor for the title role(s). In Tom Schmid, the WBT has such an actor. Schmid has the ringing vocal instrument to fully exploit such stunning Wildhorn-Bricusse numbers as "This is the Moment" and the tour-de-force "Confrontation." He endows Dr. Jekyll with passion and (flawed) nobility, while his Hyde is appropriately brutish."

"Schmid ... proves to be an exciting performer ... his charisma and strong lyric baritone voice proves a perfect fit for the dual role of Dr. Jekyll and the evil Mr. Hyde. You'll thrill to his acting ability and especially to his presentation of the song 'This is the Moment.'"

"The cast could not be better. In the title roles Tom Schmid has a glorious baritone voice supplemented by superior acting talent especially in the second act when his Hyde overwhelms the good Jekyll."

"Tom Schmid is so effective in this consuming role as Jekyll/Hyde. His simultaneous transformation between good and evil is not done with mirrors. One has to see it to believe it!"

"Here's hoping that Schmid, a law school graduate who is a member of the Minnesota bar, will stay on the stage for a while at least. With his lean, expressive face, powerful voice and excellent timing, he plays the tortured mad scientist with aplomb."

"Run to this 'Hyde' ... Flawless is the best word to describe the new staging of 'Jekyll & Hyde' at Westchester Broadway Theatre. Everything about it is as good as it could be. 'This Is the Moment,' Jekyll's decision to go ahead with his experiments, reaches two climaxes — first in Schmid's stirring performance and then as a set change when Jekyll's cluttered lab of test tubes and Bunsen burners rises into view." -- Click here to read the review!
