November 5 - December 8, 2002: International City Theatre at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center (Center Theater)
Putting It Together joins over 30 Stephen Sondheim songs, taken from many of his hit musicals, and molds them into a newly structured framework. After the success of his earlier review, Side by Side, by Sondheim, the highly acclaimed composer wanted to create a new review that possessed a story from which the lyrics can still be relevant. The setting is an upscale, Manhattan apartment where a long-time married couple are hosting a small party. The show examines the eccentricities, naughty behavior and hidden yearnings of some very wealthy, very witty urbanites. By turns fast, funny, bold and stirring, Putting It Together is an intimate, insightful, often hilarious and ultimately moving portrait of contemporary society.
Tom will be playing the role of "the young man", in this 5 person review. Some of the featured songs that Tom will sing are, "Marry Me a Little", "Pretty Women", and "Live Alone and Like It". All-in-all Tom is involved in 19 of the songs.
The other cast members are TV and film star, Henry Polic II (TV's Weber), Colleen Fitzpatrick (Broadway's Passion/Into the Woods/Cats/Company), Hank Adams, and Brittany Paige. The director is Michael Michetti, and the musical director is Dan Redfeld.

"International City Theatre's production of "Putting It Together" is a knockout. ... Schmid's earnest plea, "Marry Me a Little"; and the concluding "Being Alive," [are] songs will pluck your heartstrings..."
Shirle Gottlieb for the Long Beach Press Telegram
"ICT's production is graced with a seasoned quintet of actor/singers, well equipped to handle the challenges of Sondheim's incomparable music and lyrics. ... The engaging Tom Schmid is at his best in the bitingly ironic "Marry Me a Little."
